尼克松的锦江情结
1972年初春，美利坚合众国总统理查德?尼克松访华期间来到上海，下榻于锦江饭店，他与周恩来总理谈判、发表《中美上海公报》的一周，被中外媒体称为“是改变历史的一周”。尼克松总统在完成其特殊历史使命之后离店时，写下了“上海锦江饭店是我住过的世界上最好的宾馆之一”的留言。
1993年4月，尼克松第三次访华，虽然只在上海逗留2天时间，而且下榻香格里拉，但他还是挤出时间，继1982年以后，再度重游锦江饭店小礼堂。
尼克松步入小礼堂，感慨万千。他站在礼堂中央，以洪亮的声音动情地说：“我要告诉在场的每一位，21年前，《中美上海公报》从北京开始起草，在杭州进一步磋商和讨论，最后在这里举行记者招待会正式发布。可以说，中美关系就是从这里起步的！”他还特地邀请1972年接待过他的服务员与他一起合影，又兴致勃勃再次参观了他曾两次下榻过的锦江贵宾楼。
Nixon’s Jin Jiang Emotion
In early spring, 1972, Richard Nixon, President of the United States came to Shanghai during his visit to China and
stayed at Jin Jiang Hotel. The one week of negotiation with Premier Zhou En’lai and release of the Joint US-China
Communiqué, Shanghai was named as “one week changing the history” by media both home and abroad. When
President Nixon left our hotel after completing his special historical mission, he left the words that “Shanghai Jin Jiang
Hotel is one of the best hotels I have ever been to.”
April 1993 witnessed Nixon’s third visit to China. Although the President only spent 2 days in Shanghai, he tried to find
time to revisit the Grand hall in Jin Jiang Hotel after the first visit in 1972.
Nixon sighed with endless emotions when he entered the Grand hall. He stood in the central part of small hall and said
passionately in a deep voice that: “I would like to tell all that 21 years ago, the Joint SINO-US Communiqué , started to
be drafted in Beijing, went through further negotiation and discussion in Hangzhou, and was finally released officially
here at the press conference. It can be said that SINO-US relationship kicked off here!” Furthermore, he also invited the
staff who provided high-quality service to him in 1972 to take a photograph with him and revisited the Jin Jiang
Grosvenor House where he had stayed for twice before.

2003年2月28日中午，江泽民主席在锦江小礼堂会见并宴请古巴国务委员会主席兼部长会议主席卡斯特罗一行，同时出席的还有上海市委市府主要领导人。
宴会开始服务员在斟酒服务时，卡斯特罗主席饶有兴致地提出想要品尝桂花酒。通常葡萄酒、白酒、白兰地等才是饭店高档筵席备酒，现在临时需要桂花酒，饭店没有备货。此刻大家分头寻找，终于在老夜上海餐厅发现仅有的一瓶，同时饭店领导迅速指示，以最快速度到烟酒供应站找到了货源。
本来重大宴请就有非常充分的准备，但难免还是会遇到意想不到的事，此时桂花酒起到了非常好的调节作用，两位主席共同品尝后，江主席又提出赠送卡斯特罗主席一箱桂花酒作为礼物，他激动地请翻译告诉江主席：“您这么客气，我却没有准备什么礼品回赠啊。”席间两位主席就“桂花酒”的话题谈了6次，当时气氛非常热烈，当民族乐队在演奏“美丽的哈瓦那”时，江主席带头引吭高歌，于是全场一起高唱把欢乐的气氛推向了高潮。
在小礼堂门口，面对两国媒体，江主席与卡斯特罗主席热烈拥抱话别。江主席感言“我今天送了一箱桂花酒给卡斯特罗主席，那代表着深厚的中古友情啊。”
The presidents and the sweet-osmanthus-flavored wine
On the noon of February 28th 2003, in the Grand Hall of Jin Jiang Hotel, President Jiang Zemin met and hosted a
banquet for Mr. Fidel Castro Ruz, the president of Cuba State Council and the Ministerial Conference, alongside were
some major leaders of Shanghai Municipal government.
When the banquet started, President Castro proposed with great interest to have a taste of the Chinese sweet osmanthus
flavored wine. Generally speaking, it is always those exquisite wines such as sherry, distilled spirit, Brandie rather
than the sweet-osmanthus-flavored wine that the hotel prepares for top-notch banquets. Finally, after thorough and
compact searching, the only bottle of sweet osmanthus wine was found I old Shanghai Moon, one of the restaurants of Jin
Jiang Hotel and meanwhile, the nearest supplier was also detected under the direction of hotel leaders.
Banquets of great significance can never be too-delicately prepared since anything unexpected may well be encountered.
The sweet osmanthus wine played a crucial role in activating the atmosphere. After the two presidents savored
the .sweet osmanthus wine, President Jiang Zeming offered to give a box of sweet-osmanthus wine as a gift to President
Castro, who replied in an exited voice, “Thank you so much for your hospitality, but I haven’t prepared anything as a gift
for you!” During the banquet, the two presidents picked up the topic of the sweet osmanthus wine for 6 times. When
the tune “the Beautiful Havana (capital of Cuba) was being played by the bank, President Jiang Zemin took the lead to
sing the song happily and loudly before all the people present started to join the song, pushing the already cheery
atmosphere to climax.
Standing at the entrance to the Grand Hall and facing the media from the two countries, the two presidents rejoicingly
hugged and parted. President Jiang Zemin said in a passionate voice, “I gave President Castro a box of
sweet-osmanthus wine today, which will come to represent the profound friendship between our two countries!”

锦北楼原名华懋公寓(Cathay Mansions)，1929年9月建成，其传统哥特式建筑风格历久弥新。818房位于该楼第8层东部，室内使用面积为87.2平方米，为同层中之最大，房间层高超过3米，光线充足，配套高档家具独具品位，雅致静谧，这里曾入住过很多政要名流。
周恩来总理曾前后15次在锦江饭店参与和组织了重要的政治会务和外事活动。其中1971年陪同西哈努克亲王、1972年接待美国总统尼克松和日本首相田中角荣、1973年接待法国总统蓬皮杜，周恩来总理都入住了818室。他那平易近人的领导者、足智多谋的外交家、才能过人的实干家形象，给锦江员工留下了深刻印象。当时总理夫人邓颖超也同来饭店，还与饭店员工一起合影留念。

Cathay building initially named Cathay Mansions was established on September 1929, Though going through the
hardship for years, the British style architecture of Cathay Building still show the perfect makings of the classics.
Located in the east of the 8th floor, with the largest square measure of 87.2㎡, more than 3m room height, sufficient
sunshine and up-market furniture of unique taste, room 818 proved to be tranquil and elegant, in which many politicians
and famous person used to live.
Premier Zhou Enlai altogether has lived in Jinjiang Hotel for 15 times to organize and participated in important political
meetings and diplomatic activities.
Premier Zhou lived in Room 818 when accompanying Prince Norodom Sihanouk in 1971, receiving U.S. President
Nixon and Japan minister Tanaka Kakuei in 1972 and French President Georges Pompidou in 1973.As an easy-going
leader, a resourceful diplomat and a talented man of action Premier Zhou Enlai has given great impression to hoteliers.
Ms. Deng Yingchao, his wife, also took a group photo with hotel staff for memory at that time.

2001年1月15日至20日，应时任中共中央总书记、国家主席江泽民的邀请，朝鲜民主主义共和国主席金正日对中国进行了非正式访问。其间乘坐专列至上海进行了四天的参观访问。1月18日，当时的市委书记黄菊在锦江小礼堂设晚宴宴请金正日主席，市长徐匡迪、市人大常委会主任龚学平、市政协主席王力平及其四套班子的其他成员都参加了宴会，这曾是上海最高规格的宴请。
那天的晚宴由陈燮阳指挥的交响乐队助兴，宾主频繁的相互敬酒，使气氛一浪高过一浪。席间，金正日问起身后的饭店经理程荣根：“这里是经常接待各国领导的地方，以往气氛有这样热烈吗？”当听说这次的气氛最热烈之后，金正日对黄菊说：“这说明我们是兄弟呵！”整个宴会，黄菊几度引用了这句话。
金正日还用中文询问乐队是否会演奏“南泥湾”、“白毛女”、“红色娘子军”，这些都是他十分熟悉和喜欢的乐曲，乐队全部给予了满足。还有一首歌他不会说中文，当他哼出曲调后，大家恍然大悟：“祝酒歌”！于是，全场举杯，在乐队欢快的音乐声里同声齐唱祝酒歌，此时此刻，气氛达到了高潮。
President Kim Jong II sang happily in Jin Jiang Grand Hall
From January 15th – 20th 2001, at the invitation of Chinese President Jiang Zemin at that time, Mr. Kim Jong II,
president of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, paid an informal visit to China. During his visit, he spent 4
days in Shanghai. On Jan. 18th, Mr. Huang Ju, the Party Secretary of that time held a top-standard banquet in the honor
of Mr. Kin Jong II in Jin Jiang Grand Hall, with the attendance of many high-rank officials of the municipality at that
time.
A symphony directed by the famous commander Chen Xieyang was invited to play at the banquet. Host and guest
frequently propose toasts during the banquet and the atmosphere was fervent. When Mr. Kim. Jong II knew that this
particular banquet has reached the most fervent ambience ever, he said to Mr. Huang Ju, “This is the best manifestation
of the friendship of our two nations!” The hearty remark of Mr. Kim Jong II was cited several times by Mr. Huang Ju
during the banquet.
The symphony also played many Chinese songs Mr. Jim Jong II liked, such as “Nanni Bay”, “White-haired girl” and
“Detachment of Women”. There was one more song that Mr. Jim Kong II would like to hear but can’t remember the
name. After hearing him humming the tune, the audience came to know that it was The Song of Toast. Everyone raised
their glasses and sang merrily accompanied by the symphony, which enhanced the atmosphere to the climax.

1959年和1961年，毛泽东主席2次入住锦江饭店贵宾楼，至今十五楼套房内仍保留着一张主席当年用过的办公桌。
如今套房格局基本没有变动，穿过大会客厅里间是个小会客厅，放着两个式样简单的单人沙发，沙发面对着落地长窗，窗外是个屋顶平台，有数十平米，凭栏远望，淮海路以南的大上海尽现眼底。
而小客厅再里间就是当年毛主席的书房，书房出乎意料地小，大约十平方米，里面只放得下一张办公桌和一把椅子。办公桌是最普通的式样，两边都有抽屉，桌子和椅子都微微泛着暗红色的光，如今桌子上还放着一架当年主席用过的带拨盘的电话机。
1994年，饭店在装修改造时特意留下了这个书房和大办公桌，如今已无法考证主席在这张办公桌上究竟写过些什么，可以考证的是1959年那次，毛主席在锦江小礼堂召开了党的八届七中会议。
The Desk used by Chairman MAO, Zedong
The mentioned desk, now kept in the same suite on the 15th floor of Grosvenor House, has been used by Chairman
MAO, who stayed twice at Jin Jiang Hotel.
The layout of the suite remains basically unchanged. Through the large living room is a small one, with two armchairs
on one side and a French window on the opposite. There is a platform of about 10 square meters outside, which
provides a bird’s eye view of the city to the south of the Huai Hai Road.
Further inside the small living room is the Chairman’s study, which is of a surprisingly small size, with a surface of
only about 10 square meters. The study can barely hold any other furniture apart from a desk and a chair. The disk is
of the most common design, with drawers on both sides. Both the chair and the desk ooze a mellow wine color and the
dial telephone once used by Chairman Mao is still kept on the desk.
During the hotel’s renovation in 1994, the study was remained unchanged. We can never know what exactly the
Chairman wrote on the desk. What we are certain of is that he held the 7th Plenary Session of 8th Central Committee of
CPC China in Jin Jiang Grand Hall when he stayed here in 1959.
